Three-Wheel Wooden Go-Kart
Designed and built a low-cost three-wheel go-kart from scratch, integrating the chassis, steering, drivetrain, braking system, and driver packaging into a functional vehicle.
OVERVIEW
Building a vehicle from scratch.
I designed and built this three-wheel go-kart as a personal project focused on learning vehicle design through hands-on fabrication.
The goal was to create a functional vehicle on a limited budget while working through chassis design, steering geometry, drivetrain alignment, braking, packaging, and weight distribution.
DESIGN & BUILD
Simple materials. Practical engineering.
The chassis was constructed primarily from dimensional lumber, keeping the vehicle inexpensive and allowing the design to be quickly modified throughout development.
I designed the vehicle around the engine, chain drivetrain, steering system, wheels, braking components, and driver position while considering structural strength and component accessibility.
TESTING
From concept to a functioning vehicle.
After assembling the drivetrain and steering system, I tested the go-kart as a complete vehicle. Testing exposed problems that could not be identified during the initial design and allowed me to make adjustments to improve the vehicle.
